The American Silver Eagle - Dusk of an Era, Dawn of a New Day

2021 was truly a once in a lifetime year in the numismatic world. The U.S. Mint update the design of the Gold and Silver Eagles for the first time in its thirty-five-year history. To mark that transition, the Mint held one of the most monumental events that the coin world has ever seen.

In April 2021 they marked the final day of striking for the original design and the first day of striking of the new design with a huge ceremony at the West Point Mint. The last and first coins were actually struck by the then Mint Director, David Ryder! This was all documented and recorded so that the pedigree of these coins could be established. The Mint designated these historic coins as 2021 American Eagle at Dusk and at Dawn 35th Anniversary One-Ounce American Eagle Bullion Coins. These limited-edition coins that marked the transition between old and new designs were produced during this special April 2021 ceremony. 

These historic coins were then offered for sale at a public auction on September 1st to provide access to the broadest collector base possible. CSN has had the amazing good fortune to acquire the most important Silver Eagle pair from this event.

We are the proud owner of the very last Type I Silver Eagle minted and the very first Type II Silver Eagle minted! The provenance and grade of the coins is certified by NGC and documented on the label. Both coins are mint state 70 grade with labels signed by their respective reverse designers. The Type I coin is signed by John Mercanti and the Type II coin is signed by Michael Gaudioso.
