As you know Queen Elizabeth II passed away last September after an incredible seventy year reign. She became Queen in 1952 and was Queen of the British Empire until her death. Making her the longest ruling royal in British history. Her son Charles has now been crowned King Charles III.
Earlier The Royal Mint issued the 2023 Type I Britannia silver and gold coins, these were the last to feature Queen Elizabeth II. The Royal Mint has recently made the transition so going forward all coins will display the effigy of King Charles III.
For the only time since the Britannia was issued in 1997 that there will be two different rulers on issues of the Britannia in one calendar year. The Type II 2023 Britannia’s are currently the most sought after coins on the world market.
